Kim & Dave

Kim and Dave decided only a few days before their nuptials to hire a professional photographer. New to the Cape at the time my calendar was open (not so much now).

The quintessential backyard wedding is what they imaged. Talking to Kim on the phone a few days before the big day I knew she was one of “my” brides. Kim’s bridal suite was her husband-to-be’s childhood bedroom. Complete with trophies on the shelves and stickers on the walls. Her dress had pockets, her hair cascaded down her back, did I mention her dress had pockets, pockets in a wedding dress. If only I could go back to 2000 (my dress would have had pockets for sure). Never having been to Needham, Massachusetts or their home I began searching for the perfect first look spot. Just across the street in a neighboring back yard looked promising. A little direction from me, it was time. Spring time, everything was blooming and the trees were a vibrant green. The homes all had enormous trees which matched their love perfectly.

To the tune of her best friend playing the violin another bestie escorted her down the aisle with her vow book in hand. This was “the spot” they choose because of the large tree they would be standing beneath. Her groom’s favorite tree. The symbolism of a tree, a trunk, roots for a wedding, how perfect. With readings from old friends and an ordained minister/brother everything about this wedding was personal on a different level.

Under strings of twinkling lights, lobster awaited their guest underneath a white tent nestled in the backyard. It was simply perfect.
